When you spend most of your day running around campus on a quest for power outlets to charge your phone, you know it’s time to upgrade your device. Unfortunately, sometimes that isn’t an option, so you’ll need to find ways to conserve battery life. Technology should free us, not tether us to a wall.

Depending on the kind of device you own, there are simple ways to extend the battery life of your phone. First, turn it off while you’re in class. You’re there to learn and your teacher will appreciate it. That said, here are some tips for our most popular offerings.


iPHONE (iOS)

While iPhone battery life is good, there are always ways you can keep that battery life icon in the green:

  • Turn off background apps
  • Turn off auto-brightness
  • Access your battery usage under Settings, see which apps are using the most battery life, adjust accordingly
  • Turn off location services
  • Turn off fitness tracking

SAMSUNG, SONY, LG (ANDROID OS)

When it comes to mobile phone battery life, it seems all platforms are equally vulnerable. So, here are some simple tips to increase mobile battery life of your Android smartphone:

  • Use your settings to see which apps are using the most battery power. Adjust accordingly
  • Reduce e-mail and social media refresh
  • Use the Power Saving mode setting if you have it
  • Turn off Automatic Brightness and turn down the brightness when you can
