In some cases, personal information collected by us, or our suppliers on our behalf, may be stored or processed outside of the province in which you reside and/or Canada in connection with providing you with products, service or supporting our operations. The laws in those other jurisdictions may differ from the laws in the province in which you reside and/or Canadian privacy laws. How does The Source keep my information safe?

The security of your personal information is a high priority for The Source. We maintain commercially reasonable safeguards and appropriate security standards to protect your personal information against loss, theft, unauthorized access and disclosure or misuse, including the use of firewalls, password protection and restricted access.

All employees of The Source with access to personal information are required, as a condition of employment, to respect the confidentiality of personal information.

What information is collected by The Source’s website?

Our website automatically collects some information from users which we may use to compile various web-tracking reports that are not linked to an identifiable individual. For example, our website may collect the IP address of your computer, the IP address of your internet service provider, the operating system that is on your computer, and areas of our website that you visit. This information is used for one or more of the purposes identified above.

What are “cookies” and how does The Source’s website use them?

Our website uses “cookies” to permit the website to recognize you as a recent visitor. A cookie is a small data file that a website can use to store information on your computer and later retrieve. We use cookies to better understand your interests and preferences to enhance your experience on our website by recognizing your personal preferences on future visits and to provide you with personalized services and content including, with your consent, via email. For example, we use cookies to store information about your default province, products you place in your shopping cart, your default local retail store or dealer outlet (this information is used, for example, for purposes of displaying flyers to you), to recognize you when you engage in an online chat with one of our representatives, and pages you’ve visited while on our website.

We also use cookies and work with third party service providers who use cookies to collect traffic data and other information about your use of our website and to help us display personalized content to you. We and our service providers use this information in aggregated and anonymous form to analyze usage of our website and services and to improve the operation of our website, services and business generally. For example, we use information from cookies to deliver recommendations to you based on analysis of what viewers or purchasers of a particular product are likely to also want to view or purchase.

Our cookies do not contain your name or sensitive information, such as your credit card number. You may choose to decline to accept cookies, if your browser permits, but doing so may affect your use of the website and your ability to access certain features of the website.

Does The Source’s website display customized advertising?

Cookies placed on your computer by our website from our third party service providers are used to collect information about the online activities of users of our website. We do not share with those service providers personal information about you and we do not permit them to collect certain personal information on our website, such as your name, email address, or credit card number. These service providers collect information about your interests when you view or interact with our website, or one of the other websites with whom they have a similar arrangement. The information gathered by these third parties is used to: (i) make predictions about your characteristics, interests or preferences; (ii) inform, optimize, and serve customized advertisements across the Internet based on your apparent interests; and (iii) measure the effectiveness of those customized advertisements. These third parties allow us and others to provide you with customized advertising across the Internet through their advertising networks. These third parties also share some of the information they collect with us, for example, information about the effectiveness of our customized advertisements. This practice is commonly referred to as Interest Based Advertising or Online Behavioural Advertising.

Please note that we do not have access to or control over cookies or other technologies these third parties may use to collect information about your interests, and the information practices of these third parties are not covered by this Privacy Policy.

How do I opt out of Interest Based Advertising?

Some third party advertisers operate their own opt-out mechanisms while others rely on the opt-out processes made available by the Network Advertising Initiative or Digital Advertising Alliance. These industry alliances provide a single location to opt out of ad targeting from their member companies.

When you opt out of receiving Interest Based Advertisements a cookie is placed on your computer that informs applicable advertisers that you do not wish to receive Interest Based Advertisements. The cookie is specific to the web browser you were using when you elected to opt out. If you access the Internet through a different browser, or clear your browser’s cookies, advertisers will not know that you do not wish to receive Interest Based Advertisements. In either case, you must repeat the opt out process to reset your preferences.

Opting out of receiving Interest Based Advertisements does not mean that The Source or the third party advertisers will no longer collect information or display advertisements to you, however, so long as the opt out cookie is on your browser, it does mean that the third party advertisers from whom you have opted out of receiving Interest Based Advertisements will not display advertisements to you which are tailored to your apparent interests using information collected through cookies and other tracking tools facilitated by our website or the applicable third party advertiser.

Does this privacy policy apply to websites that are linked to The Source’s website?

Our website provides links to third party websites as a convenience to our users. You should be aware that operators of linked websites may also collect your personal information (including information generated through the use of cookies) when you visit their websites. We are not responsible for how those third parties collect, use or disclose your personal information, so it is important to familiarize yourself with their privacy policies before providing them with your personal information.

Upon request, we will provide you with a reasonable opportunity to review the personal information we have retained in your file. Personal information will be provided in an understandable form within a reasonable time and at minimal or no cost to you.

In certain situations, we may not be able to provide access to all of the personal information that we hold about you. For example, we may not be able to provide access to information if doing so would likely reveal personal information about a third party or could reasonably be expected to threaten the life or security of another individual. Also, we may not provide access to information if disclosure would reveal confidential commercial information, if the information is protected by solicitor-client privilege, if the information was generated in the course of a formal dispute resolution process, or if the information was collected in relation to the investigation of a breach of an agreement or a contravention of a federal or provincial law. If access to personal information cannot be provided, we shall provide the reasons for denying access upon request.

Upon request, we will also provide information about our use and disclosure of your personal information and, where reasonably possible, we will state the source of the information. In providing an account of disclosure, we will provide a list of organizations to which we may have disclosed personal information about you when it is not possible to provide an actual list.

In order to safeguard personal information, you may be required to provide sufficient identification information to permit us to account for the existence, use and disclosure of personal information and to authorize access to your file. Any such information will be used only for this purpose.

We will promptly correct or complete any personal information found to be inaccurate or incomplete. Any unresolved differences as to accuracy or completeness will be noted in your file. Where appropriate, we will transmit to third parties having access to the personal information in question any amended information or the existence of any unresolved differences.
