Sony MDR-XB950AP Extra Bass Smartphone Headset
For the Basshead On-The-Go
Bought these after a few weeks of searching for some good over/around ear headphones. They ticked all of my requirements which were: sturdy build quality, bass oriented, wired, able to be powered by phones, and android compatible. These are also the best value for money.
They are really an excellent sounding set, with deep bass thats tight even at loud volumes, and mids and highs that are equally clear, but only slightly less pronounced than the low end. They are great for listening to anything from bassy EDM tracks to acoustic sessions.
They sound great when plugged into a phone, (I have a G3) but the bass really starts rattling your head when you connect it to a PC or powered audio player. As I use the train to commute to work, I was also happy that they have very minimal sound leakage so the people around me arent disturbed.
The only con, and it is a minor one, is that it does not come with any carrying/storage case, so you'll have to source that yourself. Also, if you are into a more neutral audio profile, these probably aren't up your alley.

Anything with bass, these cannot be beat.
It's hard to put into words just how good they sound. Or at least really translate the auditory experience, it is hard to do it justice. I didn't know un-powered headphones could even produce this much bass let alone without distortion, even cranked. Literally jaw dropping, even after almost 6 months now I'm still surprised when hearing new music or old favourites.
Every genre of music sounds and feels powerful. Obviously they aren't studio headphones, the bass frequencies are (very well) enhanced, but you shouldn't be looking at an 'xtra bass' line if that's what you want. If you want to be able to actually feel your music and still hear every nuance, these are exactly what you want. You can also listen comfortably at higher volumes. It's almost weird how there's no discomfort even when it seems like it is in the range of 'too loud'.
They're comfortable enough to wear for hours on a trip, they don't even touch your ears. The band is made of sturdy metal and will be the last thing to break if it's even possible. The flat ribbed wires are durable and don't get tangled, the only issue is they get really hard in the Canadian winter, which I had to be careful about.
Also why no volume adjustment on the remote? I have to dig my phone out still to change it, which is often.
I can't remember the last review I actually wrote for something, but this is actually a well built product that I felt I get more value out of than I put into it and would recommend in a second to anyone.
